Malaysia v China - Players Performance Review

Players' Performance Review: Malaysia v China

Players are rated as Poor, Average or Good. In extreme cases other adjectives will be used.

Azizon Kadir - Poor
A nightmare start for the Negeri Sembilan custodian, an otherwise decent keeper. He was panicking and frantic the whole night - totally hopeless on crosses with his poor positional play and erratic footwork. Should learn to stay calm and composed and try to control and 'own' his own six yard box, by collecting all the crosses earlier and with confidence. Had little help from his defence though.

Fauzie Nan - Poor
At least two goals came in through crosses and penetration from his side of the field - one from a poor tackle, second his botched clearance. Overwhelmed by the marauding Chinese, couldn't contribute much during attack.

Nurhafiz Zamani - Poor
Perhaps rusty getting back to his 'old' position after playing in midfield. No understanding with Kaironnisam, perhaps both unsure what to do in defence, to mark anyone? To prevent penetration? Cannot compete with the taller and speedier China players.

Kaironnisam - Poor
One of the biggest letdown. A captain CANNOT lead a team with this kind of performance, was nowhere near Han Peng when the striker headed China's first goal, gave away the second goal with a ridiculous first touch. Generally, the reason he will play in the second game is because he is the team captain and because there's no one better to replace him. How depressing is that?

Rosdi Talib - Poor
A disappointing performance from an otherwise experienced player. Usually reliable, perhaps fitness not up to mark (and age catching up). Again, although Norizan Bakar mentioned the plan of preventing crosses down the flank, Rosdi was not covering anyone or marking anyone close enough.

K Nanthakumar - Average
Perhaps gave a shout that he should have started the game. Managed to stifled China's attack a little with his height.

Hardi Jaafar - Average
Managed to show one or two skills but otherwise was playing too deep at the back on the left to string in any effective passes. Erratic at times. One nice free-kick. Need to work on the corner deliveries. Good pass that started the solitary Malaysian goal.

Shukor Adan - Average
At least he worked hard in this game. But otherwise could do more by helping with the defence and contributing something more to the offence. Will Norizan Bakar feed this man a proper task for once?

Shahrulnizam - Poor
Not a good start to the tournament for the rookie. Missing in midfield and didn't know what to do.

Fadzli Saari - Poor
Like the rest of the midfield didn't provide much - nothing good in attack and didn't protect the defence. Like Shahrulnizam was substituted later in the match

Eddy Helmi - Average
Came in the second half but couldn't do much. Basically didn't see much of the ball anyway

Hairuddin Omar - Poor
Didn't get the service, cannot match the opposition's defence. Had one or two small chances that he couldn't capitalise. You won't get it on a silver platter when you play against the big boys - must learn to convert half chances.

Akmal - Average
Like Hairuddin, no service from the midfield. Like Hairuddin, had trouble running at defence (when they are faster and stronger than you). One good skill.

Indra Putra - Good
Superb goal.
